Frequently Asked Questions

The pressure of booking a photographer is a lot, I get it! Here are some of my most frequently asked questions to hopefully answer some of your questions you may have before deciding to choose me as your photographer. Let’s go!

How soon after my baby is born do I book a newborn photoshoot?

Yay! You just had a baby, congratulations mama! My #1 answer to this questions: when YOU are ready mama, it is important that you feel good enough to want to do the photos. There is no right or wrong time to do newborn photos. The rule of thumb I give is: the sooner you do photos after the baby is born the more sleepy the baby will be for the photoshoot, and the longer you wait to do photos after baby is born the more awake and more personality the baby will have. I’ve done photos as soon as 5-6 days after the baby is born, and I’ve done photos at 3 months, both are great options.

What month of pregnancy should I have maternity photos done?

We want a BIG belly for maternity photos! Not exactly the normal prep for a photoshoot trying to slim down, am I right? These are maternity photos, this is literally a photoshoot to show off your baby growing inside your belly, what a time! The sweet spot for maternity photos is between 28-36 weeks.

How long will it take to receive my photos back?

My typical turn around time to receive photos back is 10-15 business days. You will receive the photos in an online gallery that you will be able to download all images from the gallery and save to your own devices.

How many photos do I get from the session? Do I have to choose which photos I want?

I have great news!!!!! There is no need to stress about which images you want to keep, because with me, you get ALL of them. Typically in a session I send out 75+ images all edited and they are ALL yours. I go through and edit all photos deemed “good”, edit them, and then they are added to the gallery for you.

What can we except during a session with you?

More energy, more energy, more passion, more passion…ok not that dramatic, but I do bring a lot of energy! I know that 99.9% of you are uncomfortable in front of a camera, because guess what…so am I! It’s a heck of a lot easier being behind the camera taking the photos, trust me on that one! So my goal is to 1. read the room, and 2. try to make light of the entire situation. I feel I have a very good sense of people and how they feel, know when to push my silliness and know when to hold back a little bit. Truly I want this to be enjoyable for you because I know you are investing a lot of money into having your photos taken, you got your hair and makeup done, you bought a new outfit, this is a big deal! If you don’t feel comfortable when I am taking your photos, then that comes off in the photos, and that is not what we are going for here!

Oh goodness, what do I wear??????

Very important part of the photoshoot! Not to sound too dramatic, but this can completely change the way your photos come out. Neutrals are always my #1 answer. Off whites, creams, beiges, khakis, browns photograph best. They compliment your skin tones the best. Other colors I recommend but not too much of are white white, pops of black, navy blue, and muted/pastels colors. Colors I do not recommend are bold red, royal blue, neons. I provide a consulting call once we book a session and we can go over all questions you may have, attire recommendations is definitely on the list.

How do I prep for a photoshoot?

Drink lots of water, get good sleep, book your appointments ahead of time (hair, nail, makeup, spray tan, botox, etc.) so you aren’t rushing as the photoshoot date gets closer, share your Pinterest/Instagram inspo with me so I know what you like, and utilize the consulting call so I can answer any questions you have!

What happens if my toddler is in full toddler mode for the photoshoot and refuses to do any of the things they are asked?

Ok I’m no toddler expert, in fact I’m the farthest thing from it, but I do have 2 kids of my own and I have been photographing families with lots kids since 2020, so when I tell you I have seen it all…trust me I have seen it all! My best technique for uncooperative kids is to leave them alone. If you have a kid you’ll know this feeling very well…you know when you want your kid to do something and you push and push and push and they regress farther and farther away from it? Ya, good times. Well photoshoots are the exact same thing. Some kids are going to be stubborn about it and they will do the exact opposite of what you are trying to do. So what do we do? We ignore them…kind of. Photoshoots are an hour long. I only need about 5 minutes maybe to snap 50 really good photos. So if your kid needs space for the first half of a photoshoot, let them have space. I will do things throughout the photoshoot to help entice them to want to join, I have them “help me” a lot for photos, with the parents consent I bribe them with candy (highly recommend for best results!!!!). Here’s what one of my long time customers has to say about her 2nd baby’s newborn shoot with a full blown toddler moment that happened during the photoshoot
